Alan Kemp is a Spanish maritime history and Missions era scholar whose studies address the political economy of the Spanish empire in the frontier of early Hispanic California. Alan was called upon to address extant evidence for shipboard chapels and the maritime economic foundations of early California, and we here post responses by him to several questions germane to the NEH Landmarks workshop of July 2013.  His comments may be reviewed via the following YouTube.com video links:
