Dr. Jack Williams is the distinguished Director of the Center for Spanish Colonial Archaeology whose expertise encompasses the historical archaeology of the Mission, Mexican, and early American eras of early California history. Dr. Williams was called upon to address a host of questions and perceptions regarding the myths and realities of the California missions, and the Spanish military presence or presidios, and we here post responses by him to several questions germane to the NEH Landmarks workshop of July 2013.
