Week 1

Grades 5-8 – Social Studies / English Language Arts – Mission Era Primary Sources for Linguistic Practice

1) Using primary source documents on California missions

2) Using Spanish adjectives and interrogative words to describe and ask questions about the images of the period

3) (English as a Second Language) Using English adjectives and interrogative words to describe and ask questions about the images of the period

Grade 8 Social Sciences – Colonization in the United States

1) Students will be able to compare and contrast the colonization of the eastern and western United States. Students will be stressed that these happened at the same time.

2) Students will be able to compare and contrast the colonization of the eastern and western United States by making a timeline.

 

Week 2

Grades 5-8 – Social Studies – Voices of The California Missions

Students will be discussing the daily life of various points of view from the Mission and the inhabitants. Students will identify the influences of different cultures on Mission life.

Grade 7 – Social Studies – Acculturation in the California Missions and Me

1)  Students are able to define culture.

2)  Higher level: Students are able to understand agnotology and be able to apply it to content.

3)  Students are able to understand the process of acculturation.

4)  Students can formulate their own analysis based upon primary and secondary sources.

Grades 8-12 – English Language Arts – Science- History – Culture – Indigenous Landscapes at Spanish Colonization

Students will know that the daily life of the indigenous people was richly varied and dictated by the geology and ecology of their environment.
